Consultations are by appointment only. Appointments with the doctor are normally for 10 minutes but if you feel your problem may take longer, a double appointment can be arranged. Appointments to see the doctor or nurse can be made by either calling at the surgery. by telephoning during office hours or, for GPs only, via our SystmOne On Line Appointments facility.
Please make every effort to attend for the appointment that you have requested. If for any reason, you no longer need or are unable to keep an appointment, please telephone to cancel in good time so that the appointment can be offered to another patient.
We recognize that there are occasions when individuals run late due to circumstances beyond their control. In the first instance if you believe that you will not be able to attend your appointment, please telephone the practice to advise them. The staff will be happy to rearrange your appointment and release your original one so that it can be used by someone else. Please note that if you arrive late for an appointment with the GP or Nurse, but are within the scheduled appointment time (i.e. 8 minutes into a 10 minute appointment), the GP or Nurse will see you, but your appointment maybe rescheduled to the end of the clinic so that other patients are not affected. If you arrive well outside your appointment time our Clinical staff reserve the right not to see you. In this event our reception staff will contact the relevant clinician to ascertain whether they are able to see you or whether you need to make another appointment.
A patient may consult any doctor but it is preferable that he/she will come to regard one of them as his/her personal doctor, particularly during the course of one illness. We are aware that sometimes it is difficult to get to see the doctor of your choice but this is partly because none of the GPs work every session. This is due to family commitments, teaching medical students and GPs in training and carrying out administrative duties. If you have to consult frequently you may find it helpful to try to stick to two doctors as this will help you to feel that continuity is maintained in a way that is difficult if you only see one GP. All the GPs take care to keep accurate records so if you are seeing a different doctor they are able to access all your medical history from the computer.
Any patient needing to be seen urgently will be accommodated on the same day by whichever doctor is available.
An appointment should be made for each member of a family requiring a consultation.
Whilst every effort is made to keep appointment times, this is not always possible. Always notify the receptionists on arrival at the surgery.
We offer a limited number of pre-booked appointments (GP and nurse) outside our usual surgery opening hours on a Monday evening between 6.30 – 8.00. These appointments must be booked during usual surgery hours (Monday to Friday 8.00am – 6.30pm).
It will not be possible to see people requiring emergency appointments. The out of hours service should be contacted by phoning 0845 60 80 320. The surgery door will be closed and access will be via intercom for patients who have booked appointments only.
It will not be possible to access the surgery for any other purpose at these times. Patients who use the extended hours facility should note that it is not currently possible for staff to undertake laboratory examinations such as blood tests. If this service is required a further appointment during the week will be needed.
Sometimes patients prefer to speak to their doctor or the practice nurse by telephone and each doctor sets aside time for this purpose. This may be appropriate if patients have a problem or query that can be resolved without a face to face consultation or to help decide whether a surgery appointment or home visit is required. The actual time for these telephone consultations will vary but can be ascertained from reception.
E-Consult is an online triage and consultation tool, you can get safe, confidential advice from a GP and other members of the team. You can also use this service for administrative reasons such as requesting sick notes, referrals, test results and medical reports. General health advice is also available.
