Prescriptions

The quickest way to order your prescription is through the NHS App as you can order from there at any time, find out more information below how to access this.

Please allow 2-3 working days for us to process prescription requests before you collect them.

You can also nominate a pharmacy to have your prescription sent to directly.

The NHS App

The quickest and easiest way to request a repeat prescription is through the NHS App.

Available for all smartphones, the free NHS app lets you order a repeat prescription in a few easy steps at any time, with no need to call the practice.

You can also use the NHS App to book appointments, get advice, views your records and more.

Through our website

If you have signed up to use our online services, then you can also send a request that way by logging into SystmOnline

As well as medication details and issue dates, you can also nominate a pharmacy to collect  your prescription. This can be a more convenient option than coming to the practice.

If you have not yet signed up for our online services, please speak to the reception team to get access.  Please note if using the NHS App you do not need to liaise with the reception team as you can download this and set up yourself.

By Telephone

The quickest way to order a prescription is via the NHS APP.   If you are unable to order through the app you can leave a message on our prescription line on 0191 2233601.

If you have any prescription queries then please ring the main surgery line on 0191 2132778.

In-Person

Visit us at The Grove Medical Group and speak to the Reception Team. Please bring the repeat prescription form part of our last prescription.

Questions about your Prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

Prescription queries can be discussed with our reception team by phoning the main telephone line on 0191 2132778 but we do encourage patients to use the online systems for ordering repeat prescriptions as this is quicker and you will not need to wait in a queue, it is also safer online as you can choose the correct medications you wish to order rather than pronouncing these to staff over the telephone.

Local Pharmacy Services

You can enter your postcode on the NHS website to find a Pharmacy near you.

Through the NHS App, you can nominate a pharmacy to have your prescriptions send to directly.

If you are away from home, you can use the NHS App to create a prescription barcode, which you can use to collect your medication anywhere.

As well as dispensing medicine, your local pharmacist can help you with a range of common illness, including such as coughs, colds, sore throats, ear infections and aches and pains. This is called Pharmacy First

Private Prescriptions Policy

We are aware that given current NHS wait times, some of our patients opt to see a private doctor. This statement clarifies our position on prescriptions.
